WHY GEM?

Innovative. Relevant. Comprehensive.
The GEM program is breaking new ground; no other graduate program offers a curriculum and delivery method that is in lock-step with both energy industry needs and student goals. If you are looking to advance your career in the energy industry, the GEM program will provide you with the knowledge and skills essential for advancement in today's rapidly evolving energy industry. What makes GEM unique is that students gain a leadership and business education focused solely on the energy industry. Developed in partnership with leading energy companies, our curriculum goes beyond theory-- it addresses the practical, real world considerations and challenges energy companies face on a daily basis. GEM is designed to equip future leaders with the tools needed to find solutions to the issues and opportunities found in conventional (oil, gas, coal), nonconventional (oil sands, shale), alternative (nuclear, coal gasification) and renewable (solar, wind, bio-fuels, etc.) energy businesses. Furthermore, this "real world curriculum" is taught by faculty from around the world, who have extensive experience in the energy industry. Companies have already begun approaching the GEM program about employment opportunities for our students.

Partners with Industry.
The Business School partnered with energy company executives to create the Master of Science in Global Energy Management to help support the industry's leadership succession pipeline. Within the next five years, 40-50% of individuals in uppser management in energy companies are eligible to retire, leaving a significant knowledge gap between middle and upper management. GEM's continued success and ability to deliver such a highly-specialized energy leadership curriculum is directly linked to the continuous input, guidance and support from our Advisory Council. The GEM Advisory Council, representing top energy leaders in business and government, ensures that GEM is providing the education necessary for students to advance into executive leadership positions throughout the energy industry.

Superior graduate education for the working professional.
The GEM program understands it is necessary to receive higher education within the energy industry for personal growth as well as vertical movement within your career. This is why GEM's hybrid approach allows professionals to remain full time employees and receive additional trainig through new technologies.
